Guanico Surf Academy was founded by Lorenzo and Jiani, the owners of El Ranchito Surfcamp, driven by their passion for surfing and teaching. Originally, surf lessons were offered exclusively to guests at the surf camp, but the growing interest and demand for their expert instruction inspired them to expand. Today, Guanico Surf Academy operates independently at Playa Guanico, welcoming everyone—locals, travelers, and surfers of all levels. With years of experience and a commitment to quality coaching, Lorenzo and Jiani have created a surf school that combines professional instruction with a friendly, supportive atmosphere. Their goal is to inspire others to connect with the ocean, develop their surfing skills, and experience the joy of riding waves in one of Panama’s most pristine surf locations.
Meet the Founder
Lorenzo is an experienced surf coach with a deep-rooted connection to the ocean. Born and raised in the Basque Country, France, Lorenzo developed a deep passion for surfing and a profound understanding of the sea, which have shaped his unique teaching style. He is dedicated to sharing his love for surfing by helping students build confidence, master techniques, and foster a stronger connection with the ocean. As one of the pioneers of surfing in the Guanico area, Lorenzo’s unwavering commitment to quality coaching and his patient, inspiring approach have earned him an exceptional reputation in the surf community.
With 25 years of experience, Lorenzo has dedicated his life to teaching surfing and inspiring countless students. From coaching at top surf schools in France to founding his own academy, he has built a career rooted in passion, professionalism, and a commitment to his students’ success.

Lorenzo is a certified surf coach with the BEES 1° degré certification, earned after intensive training in France. He is also an ocean rescue expert with years of lifeguarding experience, ensuring safety and professionalism.

Jiani
Co-Founder & Coordinator

Jiani oversees all the bookings and personally handles customer service to ensure every guest feels valued and cared for. She takes the time to organize surf lesson schedules thoughtfully, tailoring them to meet each guest’s needs. Jiani’s passion lies in making everyone feel welcome and at home, always going the extra mile to ensure they are happy, comfortable, and leave with unforgettable memories of their stay.
